Course Description

23–25 September 2026 | Athens, Greece
Hygeia Hospital & ISLE Academy

ISLE Academy is proud to announce its collaboration with Hygeia Hospital for the launch of the first Upper HPB Robotic Surgery Workshop, a new educational initiative dedicated to advancing robotic surgery in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) procedures.

This partnership brings together the clinical expertise of Hygeia Hospital’s HPB Department, under the scientific leadership of Dr. George Tzimas, and ISLE Academy’s extensive experience in simulation-based surgical education, creating a comprehensive training experience that combines clinical excellence with structured, hands-on learning.

The Upper HPB Robotic Surgery Training Program is a comprehensive three-day educational workshop designed for general surgeons and HPB specialists who wish to build a solid foundation in robotic Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery.

Organized by Dr. George Tzimas and his HPB team, with the technical  support of ISLE Academy, this intensive course combines live clinical observation, expert-led education, and immersive hands-on simulation to provide participants with a structured introduction to robotic HPB surgery.Designed specifically for surgeons with little or no previous robotic experience, the program bridges the gap between conventional HPB surgery and robotic practice through progressive skills development and supervised training. Participants gain practical exposure to robotic systems, clinical workflows, and essential operative techniques while working alongside experienced faculty in a highly interactive educational environment.

What Sets the Upper HPB Robotic Surgery Training Program Apart

Live-to-Lab Learning

Participants begin the course by observing live robotic HPB procedures performed at Hygeia Hospital before transitioning to simulation-based training that reinforces every stage of the robotic workflow.

Comprehensive Hands-on Experience

Through structured workstation rotations, participants practice robotic docking, console skills, instrument handling, virtual reality simulation, tissue dissection, intracorporeal suturing, and pancreaticojejunostomy on high-fidelity LifeLike® models under expert supervision.

Focused HPB Curriculum

Unlike general robotic surgery courses, this program concentrates exclusively on upper gastrointestinal and HPB procedures, covering robotic liver resections, distal pancreatectomy, pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure), vascular control, hilar dissection, and reconstruction techniques.

Small-Group Training

Participation is limited to 12 surgeons, allowing individualized mentoring, extensive console time, and continuous interaction with faculty throughout the program.

Faculty & Training Team

The scientific program is led by Dr. George Tzimas, Director of the HPB Section at Hygeia Hospital, Athens.

The faculty is supported by distinguished HPB surgeons and the dedicated ISLE Academy training team, ensuring an educational experience that combines scientific excellence, personalized mentoring, and extensive hands-on practice throughout the three-day workshop.
